My "GO TO"

So, the last couple of weeks, I have been wearing my hair in either a Grecian braid or twist wrapped around my head with the ends of my hair safely tucked away and pinned. I REALLY enjoy this style simply because it's quick, easy and cute! I do believe it is my new "GO TO" style.
This style can be achieved by adding a spritz of water in the morning, a bit of gel to slick the edges, and a few bobby pins. It literally takes under 5 minutes!
It is perfect for the wee hours of the morning when I can find anything to do with my strands or for when I am pressed for time, OH, and it is a  great protective style. Enjoy!!!!!

Review: Turbie Twist Towel

So, this is it-My second review! Yay.
This review comes to announce:  that my hair is FINALLY being protected after every wash. Yes, after the co-washing, pre-pooing, and clarifying washes I now use this neat, little microfiber towel that I bought at my local Dollar Tree store for, $1.00.
Disclaimer: The towel itself, It is not actually sold under the Turbie Twist brand name, but I had already opened, used and tossed the package.....I used the Turbie Twist name and pic for comparison only!!!!!
First, the feel of the microfiber towel, as with any other microfiber product, it was Super soft to the touch! I love the way it feels....Reminds me of cashmere.
Secondly, we shall discuss the TASTE, SMELL, AND SOUND Have all been Obviously omitted. And Lastly, there's Appearance. ...it is so cute!!! It looks like a  cute little turban hat, that has a little button to keep it securely snapped in place on the top of your head, and it comes in a variety of colors....SO who wouldn't love that!?
My hair loves this towel and I give it 5 out of 5 stars. Great quality, great product, and my hair was Ubber soft....So, I say for the price...It was an fantastic steal!

What do you think of my pics? What do you use to dry your head? Would you  consider a turbie twist?Let a sistah know below...........................

H.O.T.D- 09/10/2012

Here it is y'all.....my mini twist......H.O.T.D. post for the month of September. I believe that mini twists are becoming my newest style craze right now gang! Yes, it is very time consuming for me, but the results are amazing. So, all I did to achieve the style was wash my hair with my Tresemme Naturals Conditioner/VO5 Clarifying Conditioner and applied Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding once again....That simple.I dressed the style up with a flowered headband. I continue to get compliments on this style more than any other style I've worn....I am so in love with this style because I get compliments and I can keep my hair in protective mode for weeks! What are your thoughts? Would you like to see me rockin this style at least once a month? Let a sistah know below......................

H.O.T.D- 8/29/2012

So, I achieved this twistout look today by applying Cantu Shea Butter, and some Hot Six Oil to freshly washed hair. My hair was sectioned and left in 12 medium size twist to dry overnight. I love the results and I accessorized my style with a headband! Hope you like!

Review: Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding

If you follow this blog, then you know yesterday I posted a H.O.T.D pic.
If not, you can find the pic here.
I was feeling and looking great, and the products I used were Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding and some EVOO. So, today for the first time EVER on my blog I am humbly submitting my review of this product.
Note: I was in no way paid to endorse, or review this product and all the opinions are solely my own.
So let's begin with a walk through the 5 senses: Scent, Sight, Touch, Taste, and Sound. First, We shall begin with Scent. The product smells heavenly and I was taken back aromatically with the fragrant, lavender smell. I mean, gee it REALLY smells divine.
Next, Sight. The product looks purplish in color and even resembles a lavender, or lilac purple and even comes in a nifty purple container. It has a thick, creamy, non-watery texture as a cream should.  So, yes, I was smitten, as Purple is my absolute favorite color!
Then there is , Taste & Sound, which for my health's sake has been purposely omitted out of the review.LOL. We follow up lastly with Touch, and I will say this: I don't know if the underlying EVOO had something to do with my hands being VERY sticky but I did have looks of icky, sticky residue on hand during twisting! I remedied this problem by simply wiping my hands every few minutes on a few of my son's baby wipes.
So, my all in all Honest opinion of Miss Jessie's :
It is a pleasant smelling, consumer appealing, darn good styling agent. It does curl the nicely as it suggests, it was easy to apply, and a little goes a LOONG way, BUT it isn't budget friendly. It will cost you a nice penny, but in my opinion its worth it. I won this product in a giveaway BUT after first use I will definitely use it again, and will purchase myself!  My hair loved it!
I give it 4 out of 5 stars. 1 pt. deducted because of the residue, BUT otherwise AMAZING stuff.

H.O.T.D-08/16/2012

So, last night I decided at 10:45 p.m. to get started installing mini twist. LOL, I know. My hair was freshly washed with my Tresemme Naturals Shampoo and Conditioner, and then I generously applied some olive oil and the pictured Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding.
Around 1:50 a.m. I felt too tired to go on , so with about only 50% of my hair done, I commenced to tie up my strands and lie down for the night.
I woke up around 10:50 a.m. and proceeded with finishing the install of my new mini twists. I listened to music and was in my own zone. Took about 2 hours to complete, totaling 6 hours from start to finish. I absolutely love the look. I pinned one side for a bit of  pazzazz, and VOILA! Miss Chastity is looking good.

Do you like this style? Have you tried Miss Jessie's? Your thoughts? Let a sistah know below................

H.O.T.D- 08/5/2012

So, today, I decided to try something different for church. I had prepped my hair for a twist-out Thursday night, and woke up Friday to some lukewarm results. I was so upset I picked it and commenced to wear it in an afro. It was later Friday night before bed that I decided once I got baby to bed I would try bantu knots. So, I simply sprayed my dry hair with a spray bottle mix of water and EVOO. I added shea butter for moisture and sealed with Castor oil. The results turned out better than the twist so I wore them for 2 days(Saturday and Sunday).
The hairstyle featured is my hair on day 2.It is a side-swept style held up with two hair combs plus reinforced bobby pins.I loved these results and even got a few compliments at church. Be Blessed. Hope you Enjoy!
Do you like this style and would you also try it? Have you tried it before?Let A sistah know below...................................

Discussion#7

To pick just one hair crush would be a hard task for me.  I have so many! But if one insisted I had to pick a hair crush I would have to shout out : Tracee Ellis-Ross. Yes, Diana Ross's daughter has beautiful, natural hair!!! I would see her on one of my favorite sitcoms, Girlfriends, and fall in love with her hair time after time. She is gorgeous, and so is that Head of hair! I

Book Review #1

I work in the school District, and we work hard all year just awaiting the words S-U-M-M-E-R! I say this because the summer leaves me with more time to enjoy things I love.
I can spend more time with my son JJ,  family, vacation properly, EVEN read!
One of the books that I enjoyed reading this summer was: The Curly Girl Handbook by Lorraine Massey. I had many a YouTube friend raving about the Curly Girl, or CG method and I had to try it~I bought the book in April as a Birthday gift to myself, and I love it!

Lorraine is a beautiful, self-professed curly girl and Salon Owner. She has many years in the haircare business, and has compiled all of her knowledge on hair and expertise into this nifty little Handbook! She has this curly hair stuff down to a science!! But I found that most of her info, Naturals in today's society already know! Here is my Book Review:
 Things I Learned
There are 7 different types of curl patterns:
1. Botticelli- Curls that vary in size and shape!
2.Corkicelli-Curls w/varying curl patterns!
3.Cherub-Curls that are soft to the touch, and baby-fine. Resembling hair of a young toddler!
4.Wavy -Curls that loose curl pattern; Can appear straight!
5.S-wavy -Curls that are defined + wavy with a slight bend on the end; Curls resemble an "S"
6. Fractal or Zigzag -Curls that most women of color have; Very dry and resembles micro-spirals or corkscrews!

7. The Curly Girl Method-A daily routine which involves cleansing with sulfate-free  or Botanical shampoo- Conditioning, and leaving most in hair for moisture- Scrunching, with a microfiber towel to absorb excess moisture and lastly-Styling with a handful of gel being added to hair to define curls and hold your hair's natural shape!

8. How-To make some homemade products targeted to Curly Girls!
9. There are tons of natural hair classification systems;Lorraine's classification system of curl patterns is one of the BEST I've seen!
Things I Knew
10 Hair doesn't need Shampoo to thrive and grow. Most naturals already do conditioner washes! >I JUST NEVER TRIED THEM MORE THAN A HANDFUL OF TIMES:(

11. Water is essential to hair growth
12. Most naturals already know about shrinkage; Lorraine calls it " Spring Factor"- LOL.

In the end, the book was an awesome read, and at a price of  $9.99, I say grab it. It can always be used as a refresher course. It has the Actual DVD that assists you in learning how-to do the CG Method step by step! I would buy the book again for myself OR someone I love just so they can learn the CG Method. ***Once I have these twist taken out I am trying her method.

Spotlight: Brooke

From time to time, We here at BSBlogs love to shine a Spotlight on Beautiful, naturals that we have become acquainted with. The naturals chosen are inspiring , admirable and VERY influential. This little one you will read about today is a phenomenal child, Blogger, Vlogger, Actress and Model, and a very good friend. Please get to know Little Miss Brooke Aaliyah, she will definitely be in the REAL "spotlight" soon enough!
Read Her Interview Here:
  BlackSistah: Straight or curly?

Brooke: My hair is naturally curly and I love my curly hair. I get my hair flat ironed twice a year by my hair stylist Rose....at Christmas time and on my birthday. She really knows my hair texture.
BlackSistah:Accessories or no?

Brooke:
Yes, I love hair accessories. My fave ones are the ones with flowers and bling. I love flowers and bling.

BlackSistah:What's your favorite natural hair product? Why?

Brooke:
We love to try new hair products. I love the ones that make my hair soft and allows me to wear it down. I would say that my fave hair products at the moment is Curly Q's. I love the smell, the bottle it comes in and I love that it doesn't make my hair puffy. I like to wear my hair down and when my mom uses Curly Q's, then I get to wear my hair out. My hair also loves Manetane Beauty's hair food.

BlackSistah:What do you say to kids styling their own hair?

Brooke:
I think that's great. I wish I could do it.
I would love to style my own hair but my mom says that I'm too young. I gotta wait until I'm older but sometimes she does let me brush it but only when 's wet.

BlackSistah:You prefer mom's styling or Brooke's styling?

Brooke:
Well since you asked. I like to choose the style and mom does it. . :)

BlackSistah:Whose hair do you prefer best: Skai Jackson Willow Smith? Why?

Brooke:
I like Skai Jackson because her hair is always big and she has cool styles. I really don't want to cut my hair like Willow did but she is pretty with short hair.

BlackSistah: Do you feel its important for kids to see natural hair in TV, film and commercials? Why?

Brooke:
Yes....Because if other kids see my cool natural hair in movies and commercials they will love their cool natural hair too. I really like my curly natural hair.

BlackSistah:What's your favorite hair style?

Brooke:
I love to wear my hair down, twists, braids and in a pony tail.

BlackSistah:What's the most important thing you've learned about your hair?

Brooke:
My hair gets tangled so mom is very gentle when she combs it. I have to keep my hair moisturized to keep it soft. My hair gets puffy and dry if I don't use the right products.

BlackSistah:Anything else you'd like to add?

Protective Hair Styling: Cute Style but NOT Age Appropriate.

Guest Blog Post: Maintaining Healthy Hair & Scalp of Young Children After Hair Styling.

Children's hair should not be styled in the same manner as an adult. The hair & scalp of a child isn't strong enough to take the beating of excessive tension, tightness and or pulling. The skin is fairly new and so is the hair. Hair Care for a child requires time, patience as well as understanding that the hairstyle itself doesn't have to be 100% perfect. Hygiene of children hair & scalp should always out weigh the importance of how a  hairstyle look.

Protective Styling is one of the most popular Natural Hair Care methods used to promote healthy hair care in children. It's purpose require low manipulation of the hair and to protect hair from breakage due to everyday styling. This fashion of hair styling is great for children of all ages, however, there are times the hair and scalp needs a break from always being bound and should be able to flow freely for at least a week. Just enough time for the hair & scalp to breath.

Before I get into the purpose of today's post, I want to share a sad story with you that no child should ever have to go through. I recently provided mobile hair care services for a new 4-year-old client. After meeting this adorable child and her family, I sat down with the parents to conduct a consultation of the child's hair. Everything appeared to be normal. Her hair was loose and free in an Afro which made the consultation easy for me. What her parents failed to inform me of was that their daughter had had two different stylist style her hair that week and I was stylist number three to put my hands in her hair. Also that the child had two large open sores on her scalp.

The first stylist styled the little girls hair in too tight Nubian Knots (Bantu Knots), which resulted in the child screaming and crying during bed time for two days. Recognizing their child was in pain, the parents decided to take the child's hair out. A day later, the second stylist cornrowed the child's hair but the parents didn't like the way the style looked and decided to take her hair out. The day after that, I received a phone call to provide the child with hair care services. After seeing the open sores on the child's head, I decided not to style her hair. I recommended the parents to wash her hair, leave it out and take her to a dermatologist immediately. I told them that once they get a note from the doctor, I will then style her hair in three weeks. Her parents thanked me for my advice and I have an appointment set-up to see the child once her scalp heals.

BE CAREFUL WHEN STYLING: Nubian Knots/Bantu Knot for Children.

With or without extensions, Nubian Knots can be very harmful to the hair and scalp if styled by someone who is heavy handed. Try not to twist the hair too tight or apply the rubber-bands too tight. This style (in my personal opinion) should not be styled in children under age 3.

BE CAREFUL WHEN STYLING: Africa Twist for Children

African Twist is a very heavy and  painful  style for many adults and should not be styled in children under age 13.This style would be torture for a young child. I have seen adults who have had open sores on their scalp due to wearing African Twist.

BE CAREFUL WHEN STYLING: Cornrows & High Bun for Children.

This particular style can be styled Naturally and or with extensions. The combination of tight Cornrows and a tightly twisted bun, can cause scalp irritation. The scalp may itch and due to scratching, may make the scalp raw and tender. Take the hair down if your child is scratching his or scalp too much. Not good for children under age 5 unless styled with their own Natural Hair. No hair added.

These are just a few styles I do not recomend for young child. Tight hairstyles of any kind isn't good hair care practice for the hair or the scalp. And although protective styling is a great life saver for many parents, it is also great to allow a child's hair to breath from being bound for weeks at a time. Allow the childs hair & scalp to get a break between protective styling.

Today's H.O.T.D comes to you via my cousin.....Britney. She is about 8 years younger than me and has a son. She keeps his hair braided in nice cornrows and so I decided to call her up this Spring Break week, and ask if she would braid my hair. She humbly obliged and said I didn't have to pay because we're family and she needs the practice, so I was excited. Now, Ladies and gents.....I still paid her but after seeing the finished results I believe I look all of 12 years old. Shaking my head. I think I wanna take them down. I don't know, HMMMMM. The excitement has left. Proud of me for venturing out to try more styles, But.....
Then, her dad, my uncle said, I have a "BIG HUGE FOREHEAD."
What to do , what to do? Wear this to church, and rock it, or take it down and start fresh?

Note: I do have church in the a.m. Oh, and Happy St. Patrick's Day!

So, this past week she sends me cute pics of the youngest child, Rihanna. I was so in love with the photos that I had to share.

H.O.T.D-2/20/2012

Hello my Faithful BSBlog lovers:
Sorry I have not been updating these last two weeks or so.
I have been feeling blah, and in a rut, and things just haven't  been going as I planned.
Ever had one of these days? LOL.

Well, I have been relieved a bit today, because I honestly felt better than I have in 7 days!
I took a pic of my hair. *I have included my hair pic for your viewing pleasure*. Mom says its a no go-But she is unsupportive at ALL times!
I loved this look, and even wore it to work.
It was constructed by simply washing my hair to prep for a wash n' go. I added my leave-in, coconut oil, and some Pink Oil Moisturizer Lotion. I pulled my hair in 5 taut ponies, and allowed it to air dry overnight. I picked out and added the part, plus 2 hair clips in the a.m.
Hope you enjoy!

Hair How-To: Finger Coils

So, this week on Sunday or Monday, I did coils in my hair. I really love the style. It is effortless, simple, and plain ole convenient.
I did find a down side to my style of choice this week, and it was my gel. After the hair dried, For the first time EVER -My hair dried white, with flaky white residue. Ewwww.
It's barely even noticeable, but I wanted to share my method. Hope you enjoy it anyhow. Peace!

Discussion #6

OMG! Over the weekend, I had a friend of mine post a pic on her Facebook wall. Nothing unusual about that, huh? Well, the pic was of Kim Wayans.

It should ring bells to hear Wayans alone. Yes she is one part of the notorious Wayans family. Her siblings are Shawn, Marlon, Keenan, etc....They are the creative forces behind White Chicks, The Wayans Brothers, and In Living Color, the HUGELY successful 90's variety show!
So, anyhow, the pic was of her sporting her own natural hair.Kim Wayans, natural-Who knew? The picture was simply gorgeous, and I loved it. Wanted to share and get your opinions on her look......Enjoy!

Note: Find these and the full interview at: Kim Wayans interview
